Dr. 斯图尔特Omdal was involved in different roles at SEP for 23 years 和 recently retired as the director of the Summer Enrichment Program.
Dr. 乔治•贝茨
Dr. 乔治•贝茨 was directly involved in SEP during its first year in 1978 和 was named Director of the program in 1979. For over three decades, he helped fulfill SEP's mission of providing a unique learning experience that addresses both the cognitive 和 affective needs of gifted learners.
2017 National Award Recipient
的 SEP received one of two Global Awareness Annemarie Roeper 奖 从 National Association for Gifted Children. 的 program was recognized during the NAGC's annual convention in North Carolina 2017年11月.

Four programs are offered each summer under the umbrella of Summer Enrichment Program.
All four programs nurture the whole gifted child. This is, in part, accomplished through what former SEP Director, Dr. 斯图尔特Omdal, refers to as a “culture of acceptance.” As one former participant shared, “At SEP I was accepted for exactly who I was.“ Summer Enrichment Program will continue this tradition of acceptance under the leadership of Dr. 艾米Graefe, Assistant Professor of Gifted Education at UNC.

Summer Enrichment Program
2021 marks the 44th year of the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) serving children 和青年 who are gifted, talented 和/or 有创意的 in a supportive academic 和 social setting. Designed for 学生 entering 5th grade through 10th grade, this residential program offers high interest, h和s-on, brains-on courses developed by specialists in gifted education 和/or in specialized content areas. Participants engage in h和s-on, brains-on classes during the day. 每天下午 after morning classes are finished, participants choose a variety of "options" varying from active sports 和 recreation to craft activities 和 time to visit with new 和 老朋友. Students come to SEP from approximately 25 states, provinces 和 foreign 国家. Dorm counselors who are college age 和 older supervise 学生 during all hours that the 学生 are not in class.
Young Child Program
的 Young Child Program serves children ages 4 和 5 和 those entering grades 1-4. 的 program addresses the early educational 和 social needs of children who are gifted, talented 和/or 创造性的孩子. Parents select high-interest courses that meet during four 40-minute 每天的周期. 的 specialists in gifted 和 talented education who teach the courses plan them to help develop 和 focus the natural curiosity 和 creativity of these 学生.
领导 Enrichment Program
的 领导 Enrichment Program (LEP) accepts 24 high school 学生 who are entering their junior 和 senior years. 的 focus is on underst和ing one's personal, unique gifts 和 talents, learning about leadership styles 和 developing traits 和 characteristics of leadership. 他们关注 on leadership topics during the day 和 assist SEP counselors with afternoon 和 evening options 和 teach mini-courses on the Saturday between the weeks of their session. Special activities, meals, 和 有创意的 options make LEP unique 和 memorable.
